Notice
"Mirage" is written in a vocal style. The chords are arpeggiated, but long sustained melody notes pop off the top of the arppegios. There's a definite rhyhmic pattern to the melody - the notes tend to start on the upbeat. This piece is what I call 'chromodal'; It's modal in a chromatic way. It revolves around the tonal center of D, but it has a lot of accidentals and takes you through a lot of chord changes. The melody passes continually through different harmonic areas. Notice in measure 18 how the C is played twice on the 2nd string. The first time as an inner voice, the second time as part of the melody.
