This is perhaps Barrios' most sophisticated composition and undoubtedly one of his most technically challenging pieces. A virtual exploration of guitar technique. Arpeggios, scales, slurs, harmonics and tremolo await the player seeking to be challenged. Paying homage to one of his heroes, Francisco Tarrega, the theme is his famous "Lagrima" melody.
Variation I - I was forced to alter the original score in order to make the playback proper as I feel this is essential to hearing what it should sound like musically. It makes the music staff part of the score rather ugly with all the rests but that is a necessary sacrifice in this case IMAO.
Variation V - The tremolo portion - I notated 1 measure per staff line to keep the overall look of the score nice and even. I tried putting 2 measures per line but it looked like a garbled mess compared to the rest of the score. Sorry to all you tab printers out there because this adds a couple of printed pages to the score.
The score was taken from the Barrios biography which to the best of my knowledge is the only publication of this piece. The biography wonderful book by Richard Stover entitled "Six Silver Moonbeams". I highly recommend any fan of Barrios to pick up this book which provides a wealth of insight into the genius of Barrios. Some of the fingerings may seem a little unothodox, but these are taken from the original score, and represent the piece as Barrios meant it to be played. And of course there is a small chance, I made a positional error or two but that is highly unlikely. ;)
Enjoy!
