Entirely by ear. More difficult to figure out than it is to play. As for the effect, no clue. I certainly fail to imitate it too well through the use of my pedals; it sounds like an odd mix of chorus, distortion, and perhaps a delay? Oh well. If you have any idea, drop me a line, let me know, and I'll toss it in here.

Bear with me, I have no live sightings to work with and this is entirely through one track of the song. X_X

* I didn't include it in the MIDI, but during the Intro/Interlude and the final riff before the last chord, I'm nigh-positive I hear an acoustic guitar overdub, so keep that in mind if you're looking for absolutely perfect emulation.
This was very difficult to hear, and through the use of an equalizer I ALMOST singled out the bass and I think I got most of his variations pretty accurately. Very busy bassist.
