Notice
Great Orchestral style vocal harmonies, winding their way to Rick Wakeman's Church Organ Solo, eventually spilling over into "Seasons Of Man". A rare chance for Wakeman to be the focal point (musically) with YES, as Keyboards dominate this song throughout.
The placement of "I Get Up, I Get Down" is very important in "Close to the Edge", as we hear 8:30 of outright Musical Agression, and then, all of a sudden, there is this major "calm in the storm". This could (I suppose) have simply been another one of Jon Anderson's "Time and a Word" Folk-Type thing, but the depth of the Mood is way beyond original (at least, for that time period).
Steve Howe simply shines during "I Get Up, I Get Down". Not only does he lay down the "Spacy" Electric Sitar Track, but then adds a Volume Pedal Guitar Track, and then adds a great Backing Vocal Track to boot. What is more incredible is that this can be reproduced "Live" in Concert, Howe taking the Electric Sitar as accompaniment to the vocal part.
Time Markers shall be placed every 2 Measures during the Free-Time Section, as this may help a bit. Believe you-me, I want this Tablature to be as easy-as-possible to comprehend, so I hope this may be very helpful during the first few run-through's...
The timing sounds like 3/4, or really 6/8 (the Keyboard Part seems to dictate this is so), which is a solid Triplet Feel, until the Wakeman Keyboard part enters in Straight 8ths (4/4 Time).
It is a very hard piece of Music to follow the Guitars (as it opens up with a long "Free-Time" section), so I have split them into Electric Guitar (Lead), Electric Sitar 1 (Lead) and Electric Sitar 2 (Bass). All parts overlap numerous times, but the Sitar is in the lower register, and the Electric Guitar up on the neck.
The Organ Solos have been arranged for Guitar, as a true Transcription would require Two Staffs, and would likely be un-playable on a Guitar.
Bass Guitar - There is some Chris Squire Bass work during this segment of "Close to the Edge", but only briefly - during the 2nd Chorus, and then, the lead-in to the 3rd Chorus.
Keyboards - The "Ambient Strings" (Keyboard) has been placed in the Bass Score, mainly as there is no room for this during the Guitar Score. It sounds to be the famed Mellotron Strings, maybe sequenced (at first), but adventures into some really bizzare harmony parts with the "sequence" running at the same time. I will keep this as simple as possible (well, we shall see)...
