In 1972, Eddie Offord caught Lightning in a Bottle. Eddie Who? Well, he produced Yes through there developing Years, but it was with "Close to the Edge" Album that he made his mark as Yes' 6th Man.
"And You and I" was the most Commercially viable Track on "CTTE" Album, and was a minor AM Radio Hit, even with a 4 Minute Edit Version.
As I recall, the Album was recorded on and off during a 1972 Tour to support "Fragile", and Yes even headlined at the fabled 1972 Olympics.
Howe had just purchased his Twin Martin Steel Guitar, which is played to no end throughout this Song. Wakeman was in full stride with some new Polyphonic Gear, and Squire was already recognized as Rock's ultimate Groove Man. The stars above were aligned I guess...
Why I mentioned producer Offord is because the original Work Mixes of this "CTTE" can be heard on "Close to the Edge" (Remastered CD), and the original Tracks just did not have that Wall of Sound Yes became noted for, and sounded very disorganized, though Howe's original Takes are almost all on the Final Version of the Album.
This is the first of four segments of this Song, enjoy the Transcription.
By trade, I am not a Bass Player, though I can pick out the Notes. Phrasing and Fret Positions may be inaccurate, but the actual Notes should all be correct.
