"Why" is the first solo single by Annie Lennox and was from her debut solo album Diva (1992). It reached number five in the United Kingdom and number thirty-four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Lennox performed a piano-only version of the song for an NBC telethon to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina. On November 23, 2008 Lennox performed this song at the American Music Awards televised on the ABC television network. The video features Lennox playing the role of a melancholic showgirl who is backstage and putting her make-up on. She later poses for a photo shoot.
