Notice
The first section relies upon delay, and using a bottleneck-slide with a volume pedal. If needs be, you can try using a glass bottle and guitar volume knob, but it won't sound as good.
I'm fairly sure that at least during the first part of the prechorus, the powerchords are played as fourths, with the bass playing the root (that is, don't play the notes marked as ghost notes)
There are many overdubs in the solo, focussing around the same general idea, with lots of delay. (Duane has a bucketload of pedals, which he uses extensively- I've always been over towards stage left, so I haven't caught what those pedals are).
Delay delay delay! The first section involves a few overdubs, but the key is delay. Scratch, scrape, plick, pluck...
For the main body of the song, if at all possible, use a mix of clean (mild tube overdrive) and /fuzz/ -type overdrive.
Kevin always uses a pick... but that's not terribly important to this song.
